Anne has been my piano teacher for years, and I have nothing but good things to say about her. Before my lessons with Anne, I severely lacked basic piano skills, despite being taught (inadequately) for several years. I felt so disappointed that after years of practicing music, I had nothing to show for it. However, during the first lessons with Anne, she quickly gauged my abilities and weaknesses and knew exactly how to fix them. She's worked with me on proper technique, musicianship, piano theory, and even helped me re-learn sight-reading to a level I can be incredibly proud of. Not only is she the most competent music teacher I've ever had (and arguably the most competent music teacher out there), she's highly professional and personable. You never have to worry about hiccups or unreliability because Anne is always on top of things.
Additionally, she knows all of her students on a personal level which I find to be a vital part of learning; She knows what I need as a student to feel proud of my progress and can make music fun because she knows my preferences. Anne is exceptionally qualified and has a vast knowledge of music, but she is also a well-rounded individual, making her the ideal teacher. My family and I have been loyal to her for over five years, and I can finally feel proud calling myself a musician. I've passed RCM exams with the highest distinction and gained a life-long mentor. It is rare you find someone as dedicated and hard-working as Anne Lam.

Anne is a blessing to me! It was in the wee hours of the night, when I found her on TikTok. I loved her videos how she was expressing student and teacher behavior. It was humorous and relatable. I sent her an email and she responded within a few hours. I expressed my struggles currently as a piano student and how I just felt stuck. Truth be told I was feeling really discouraged as well.
From the first lesson she was able to assess my level, listen to my struggles and concerns and came up with a plan suited for me. Her structure and passion for teaching will keep you challenged, growing and having fun. I've been taking lessons with Anne for 5 months and I grow every week. Plus I do all this online, so imagine if I was doing in person lessons?!!! Thanks to Anne I no longer feel discouraged, I am no longer stuck, I am building a lot of confidence and the dream of being a pianist has been revived. I’ve been with Anne for over six years, and I can say that she is one of the most competent and enthusiastic teachers I’ve met. Anne has helped me improve my musicianship to a point I previously thought unreachable. In addition to this, she provides curated and thorough materials and helped me use them to gain the highest scores I’ve ever attained in theory, harmony, and history. She has provided insight I had never considered, useful both inside and outside the class. Despite the confines of the RCM, she has prodded my curiosity in music and opened my mind in such a way that I’m constantly exploring different interpretations and composers’ works, and heavily considering pursuing teaching music in the future.
Anne also takes an approach to teaching that many do not: she engages with each student on a personal level, enabling her to understand any students’ struggles as well as support any goals that students may undertake. Her years of experience teaching not only music but also languages and other instruments make her one of the most well-rounded teachers I’ve met, and allows her to approach ideas with many different angles. It is a blessing to have someone like Anne support your music journey: not only broadening your horizons, but encouraging you to take and realise your own interpretations as well.
